Distribution of Dry Ration packets on the occasion of Sinhala & Tamil New Year 2023

1.  As a continuation to the humanitarian assistance programme, Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy distributed packets of dry ration and essential items at seven places to around 700 families ahead of the traditional Sinhala & Tamil New Year.

2.  On 10th April, AHC Dr. Athira S. and Second Secretary P. Somaraj sought blessings of Mahanayake Thero of Malwatte Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero & Mahanayaka Thero of Asgiriya Chapter Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero and wished them on the occasion of ‘Aluth Avurudu’. Dry ration packets were distributed to the buddhist theros and needy families at Malwatte Mahaviharaya and Asgiriya Mahaviharaya. A Pirith chanting ceremony was conducted by the theros of Malwatte chapter on the occasion. Both Mahanayake Theros praised the Government and people of India for extending help to the needy people of Sri Lanka.

3.  On 11th April, Dry ration packets were distributed at three places in Mahiyangana, Muthiyangana and Poonagala. In Mahiyangana, AHC Dr. Athira S. and Second Secretary P. Somaraj met the Vedda Chief Uruwarige Wannila Aththo and conveyed him best wishes on the occasion of New Year, following which dry rations were distributed to the Vedda community people of Dambana village. In Muthiyangana, dry ration packets distribution took place at Rajamaha Viharaya. At Poonagalla estate in Bandarawela, CWC Leader Hon’ble Senthil Thondaman joined the dry ration distribution programme for needy families of Poonagala estate, which were recently affected by landslide.

4.  Continuing the distribution drive, on 12th April, dry ration packets were distributed at Hellbodde Estate, Ramboda by Second Secretary Mr. P. Somaraj. Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Athira S. distributed dry rations among needy families of Maskeliya, Nuwara Eliya.

5.  Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy conveys best wishes on the occasion of ‘Sinhala & Tamil New Year’ (also known as ‘Aluth Avurudu’ and ‘Puthandu’) to everyone.
