Hindi Diwas-2018 celebrated on Friday, 14th  September 2018

at Hindu Cultural Centre, Kandy 

       On the occasion of Hindi Day 2018, Bharatiya Kala Kendra of Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy organized Hindi fortnight from 31 August to 14 September 2018 by holding various Hindi competitions during the fortnight and cultural programmes at the inauguration and concluding ceremonies of the event. The concluding ceremony of Hindi fortnight was organized on Hindi Day on Friday, the 14thSeptember 2018 at Hindu Cultural Centre, Kandy.

      Mr. Bresil Nagoda Vithana, Senior Lecturer of University of Sabragamuwa, Sri Lanka, was the Chief Guest. Mr. Vithana was bestowed upon Vishv Hindi Samman during the 11th World Hindi Conference (Vishv Hindi Sammelan) held at Mauritius, by the Government of India on 20th August 2018. On this occasion Assistant High Commissioner, Mr. Dhirendra Singh, in his welcome address congratulated Mr. Bresil Nagoda Vithana for his achievements and the honour received by him at the World Hindi Conference in Mauritius and appreciated his efforts and contribution in the field of Hindi. Besides, he also mentioned about the efforts of Principals, Hindi Teachers and local institutions for promotion and propagation of Hindi in Kandy and under the jurisdiction areas of AHCI, Kandy. He outlined the challenges faced by Hindi and its propagation, along with its likely solutions.  He assured his continued endeavor to encourage the promotion and propagation of Hindi in Sri Lanka. Chief Guest, Mr. Vithana in his speech expressed his gratitude towards Government of India and Assistant High Commissioner, and shared his experiences of 11thVishv Hindi Sammelan at Mauritius.

     During Hindi fortnight various Hindi competitions like dictation, translation, essay, giving words to mute video, speech, short play on moral values, and noting and drafting competition among AHCI, Kandy staff, were organized. Many Hindi students enthusiastically participated in the Hindi competitions and cultural programmes to make the event successful.

     Concluding ceremony on Friday, the 14thSeptember 2018 included prize distribution ceremony for winners of Hindi Competitions held during Hindi fortnight.  Certificates were also distributed to students who secured 1st,2nd & 3rdplaces in Hindi examinations conducted by Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai and Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra among the students who appeared for examination at Kandy Centre. Certificates were also given to participants of cultural programme. Principals, students, teachers and Hindi academicians from all renowned schools and institutions from all over the Island participated at the event.
