Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) Special Week Celebrations, 19-25 January, 2022

India is completing 75 Years of her independence on 15th August 2022. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Government of India is celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)’ beginning 75 weeks prior to the 75th Independence Day of India.

2. Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy is also celebrating the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)’ festival and many events are being organised. AHCI has planned to celebrate a “Special AKAM Week” from 19-25 January 2022 encompassing different events.

3. The week long celebrations started with celebration of ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas’ on 19.01.2022, in which Indian origin diaspora leaders, entrepreneurs and prominent people of Indian Origin participated.

4. On 20th January 2022, a Rangoli function will be organised at 2nd floor of Kandy City Center (KCC), Kandy. Mr. Gamini Rajarathne, Chief Secretary, Central Provincial Council will be the Chief Guest at the event.

5. On 21st January 2022, a ‘Blood Donation Camp’ will be oranised at E.L. Senanayake Children Library, Kandy. The event will be oragnised in association with ‘Rotaract Club of Kandy’.

6. Indian Film Festival will be organised on 23rd January 2022 at Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Matale. In Kandy, Indian films will be screened at Hindu Cultural Hall, Kandy at 10:30 AM & 02:30 PM. In Matale at Mahatma Gandhi International Center and in Nuwara Eliya at Public Library Conference Hall at 03:00 PM onwards.

7. on 24th January 2022, a virtual event on ‘The service offered by AHCI’ will be conducted. The celebrations will end with felicitating the winners of ‘’Indian Dance Festival’ on 25th January 2022.
